GV – GETTING WORLD SERIOUS ABOUT POETRY

With the World Series getting underway on October 21st, it is the right time for ED SMITH to be the featured poet in the Magic Circle at GainVille Café on Friday, October 24th. Baseball and other themes (one of his poems has been chiseled into the wall at Penn Station) run through Ed’s book, I Am That Hero, and will be on display for us.

Musical guest will be singer/songwriter JOE JACOVINO on guitar and harmonica.

The Red Wheelbarrow Poets will then sponsor the Bring Your A Game open mic with generous reading times.

Coffee/tea and dessert are included in the $7 cover.

GV – A Town Renowned For Poetry

AKRAM AL-KATREB will be the featured poet and jazz singer CORINA BARTRA will be the music feature as the Magic Circle returns to GainVille Café in Rutherford, NJ on Friday, Sept. 26.

Akram was born in a city renowned for poetry in his native Syria, and he will be reading in a town renowned for poetry in his adopted America.

Corina has just recorded a CD of songs associated with Peruvian singer Chabuca Grande and has performed it in both America and her native Peru.

The Red Wheelbarrow Poets’ Bring You’re A Game open mic will follow, with generous reading times.

GV – RWB poets read, Victoria Warne plays

On Friday September 5, 2014, Mark Fogarty, the host and producer of the GainVille Café Reading Series, will feature readings from the poets published in Red Wheelbarrow # 7. If you aren’t able to attend the launch on September 3rd please join us on the 5th. If you’ve already read on Sept. 3 come to GainVille and you can read the poems you didn’t have time for at the September 3rd launch!

Musical guest will be Victoria Warne, a guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter who has performed extensively in the New York Metropolitan area. She has recorded with Danny Gottlieb, Spyro Gyra’s Julio Fernandez, and even shared the stage with legendary jazz great Billy Eckstine. She has recorded 2 CDs as a leader, Live At The Savoy and Fluorescence.

The GainVille Café is located at 17 Ames Ave., in Rutherford, NJ. The festivities start at 7 p.m.

Rutherford poet CLAUDIA SEREA will be debuting her newest book, A DIRT ROAD HANGS FROM THE SKY and up and coming Jersey singer songwriter CHELSEA CARLSON will bring along her guitar and her big voice.

Claudia’s book, from 8th House Publishing, details the oppression of growing up in a Communist regime, based on her upbringing in Romania.

The talented and lovely Chelsea Carlson has just won a 2013 JAM Award (Jersey Acoustic Music) and was nominated for last year’s Asbury Award.
